Simple, cost-effective wired and wireless networking for enterprise branch offices
The WS2000 Wireless Switch is a powerful all-in-one
solution that simplifies and helps reduce the costs
of managing wired and wireless (802.11a/b/g)
networks in enterprise branch offices. The integrated
router, gateway, firewall, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE)
and more eliminate the cost of purchasing and the
complexity of managing multiple pieces of equipment.
Support for Wi-Fi Multimedia extensions (WMM)
and SIP Call Admission Control enables the WS2000
to provide peak performance for even the most
demanding applications, including voice and video.
The ability to easily and cost-effectively scale to
meet growing needs, as well as upgrade to support
new security, radio and other standards provides the
assurance that the WS2000 will meet your needs
today and tomorrow. The WS2000 — enterpriseclass
networking functionality, priced for the small to
medium-sized business or enterprise branch office.
End-to-end enterprise-class security
End-to-end enterprise-class security keeps your
network and data secure with support for WPA2, an
integrated AAA (authentication, authorization and
accounting) server for authenticating users, rogue
access port/point (AP) detection, stateful packet
inspection firewall, IP filtering and more. Your
network resources are protected — only authorized
users are granted access to your network. With
the WS2000, your network perimeter and your
resources are more secure.
Easy to manage and deploy
The WS2000 offers a level of management simplicity
and flexibility that eliminates the need and cost for
onsite IT personnel to manage the wireless networks.
Fewer technical onsite staff in restaurants, retail
stores, warehouses and healthcare clinics can easily
manage the wired and wireless network through
an intuitive web-based interface and centralized
management and control of access ports. For larger
corporations deploying the WS2000 in branch offices,
secure remote management capabilities (with SSH
and SNMP v3 support) and auto deployment capabilities
(with DHCP options) enable staff in the centralized
network operations or data center to easily control
and manage devices anywhere in the world.
Implementation is fast and easy: the plug-and-play
WS2000 automatically detects and configures
access ports with the best channel. And tight
integration with the wired network simplifies the
extension of wired virtual LANs (VLANs), improving
network performance as well as providing added
protection against unauthorized access.
Ideal for hotspots
The WS2000 is uniquely suited for hotspots, enabling,
hotels, airports, lounges, restaurants and more to
offer visitors convenient anywhere anytime access
to the Internet, email, and corporate applications.
Support for authentication and Radius accounting
enables organizations and service providers to
offer secure wireless public access, either as a
complimentary service, or an additional revenue stream.
Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
The WS2000 reduces the complexities and costs
associated with deploying, managing, securing,
upgrading and scaling your wired and wireless
network — delivering outstanding investment
protection and a lower TCO. Motorola Enterprise
Mobility Services provide the comprehensive
support and technical expertise you need to design,

WS2000 Wireless Switch: Voice-centric features and capabilities
The WS2000 provides a powerful all-in-one wired and wireless voice and data networking solution for enterprise branch offices and small businesses. The WS2000 offers all the features, functionality and security of Motorola's enterprise calls wireless switches, scaled and priced for smaller environments.
Recommended environments:
Enterprise branch offices and small businesses
Voice services:
Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN)
Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC)
Security features:
Keep all your wireless communications — voice and data — secure during transmission with:
- Support for all of today's 802.1x EAP wireless security standards
- The ability to upgrade to support new standards as they are developed
Integration features:
Partnerships with many leading telecom and independent software vendors ensure out-of-the-box compatibility through interoperability testing with many popular PBXs.
- Reducing the costs typically associated with integration and testing of voice and data services
- Reducing the total cost of ownership for existing telephony equipment
- Enabling more rapid deployment of voice and data integrated services
Voice quality control features:
- Wi-Fi MultiMedia Extensions (WMM and WMM2) ensure quality of service for voice and video by enabling packet prioritization capabilities. The latest generation, WMM2, offers an additional feature, unscheduled power save delivery (UPSD), which enables sleeping devices to maintain better voice quality.
- SIP Call Admission Control allows enterprises to define the number of voice calls that can connect to an access port to prevent overload and degradation of service.
- Pre-emptive roaming and load balancing, two features unique to Motorola that ensure devices roam before connection quality erodes while maintaining high throughput.
- Dual-band 802.11a/b/g radio enables the segregation of voice traffic to the less congested 5 GHz (802.11a) band. The ability to allocate and dedicate this high-bandwidth channel to only voice traffic enables the network to handle more voice traffic without any degradation of quality of service for voice calls.
- Multi-BSSID enables a completely separate virtual wireless LAN for voice traffic, improving voice performance by ensuring maximum bandwidth availability and network throughput. This feature also enables control of all broadcast traffic, eliminating the processing of unnecessary messages by mobile devices, improving battery cycle times and overall battery life expectancy.
- Quality of Service (QoS) through Voice Prioritization ensures that voice packets receive top priority in legacy voice solutions that do not support WMM, reducing dropped calls and ensuring continuity of service.
- WPA2 enables fast roaming and rapid handoffs to help prevent dropped calls as users roam throughout the enterprise campus.
Power saving features:
- Motorola's Power Save Polling (PSP) enables devices to remain in a low power-saving mode without the risk of missing key voice calls — multicast masking enables the device to wake in time to receive walkie-talkie style communications.
- DTIM per BSSID allows multiple DTIMs per WLAN — one per BSSID — eliminating the need for enterprises to sacrifice battery life or quality of service for mobile devices. Unique to Motorola wireless LANs, this feature allows the segmentation of traffic from mobile data-only devices to a separate BSSID with a high DTIM to maximize battery life, while any device with voice applications can be segmented to a different BSSID with a very low DTIM to ensure the quality and service levels for voice calls.
Wireless networking protocols:
802.11a/b/g
Manageability:
Motorola's Mobility Services Platform (MSP) significantly decreases the costs associated with management of wireless LAN infrastructure — regardless of whether you have one location or offices around the world — as well as mobile computers and mobile applications.
Motorola's Wireless Intrusion Protection System (IPS) provides around the clock monitoring and protection against unauthorized access and attacks.
Motorola's RF Management System provides the tools to ensure peak performance from your wireless LAN, from planning tools to the ongoing ability to easily analyze and monitor network performance.
