Symbol PD 4500 and PD 7000 Provide Tamper-Resistant Security and Reduce Transaction and Payment Costs
Symbol Technologies, Inc. , The Enterprise Mobility Company™, today announced two new products, the Symbol and the Symbol . These new payment capture terminals join the Symbol and complete Symbol's
family of transaction devices.
The Symbol PD 4500 and PD 7000 support applications for online and offline debit/credit, signature capture, scrolling line item display, EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer), gift and loyalty programs
and advertisements. All Symbol payment capture terminals are designed for -- general merchandise retailers, grocery stores and pharmacies -- as well as point-of-sale and point-of-service
applications for financial institutions and healthcare facilities.
"The addition of the Symbol PD 4500 and Symbol PD 7000 completes our family of payment terminal devices and provides our customers with a full set of products to meet their needs to capture
information at the point-of-sale," said Scott Allan, vice president and general manager of the Symbol payment and kiosk business unit. "These products help businesses ensure customer loyalty by
enhancing and expediting the customer checkout experience and reducing transaction and payment costs."
The Symbol PD 4500 and Symbol PD 7000 provide tamper-resistant security, which ensures that sensitive data such as credit card and personal identification numbers (PINs) are protected. Both payment
capture terminals are Visa® PED-approved and support the encryption requirements set forth by Visa International® for PIN-based debit transaction security.
The Symbol PD 4500 has a monochrome display, while the Symbol PD 7000 has a color display, and both devices have traditional serial and USB connectivity. Industry standard resistive touchpad
technology together with a passive stylus, widely used in PDAs, mobile computers and signature captures devices, are also included.
All of Symbol's payment transaction devices are Windows® CE.NET-based to reduce merchant maintenance costs and mitigate technology-scaling risks associated with proprietary operating systems. The
devices incorporate a common hardware platform based on the Intel® Xscale processor, and are compliant with Visa Online PIN or "PED" security requirements to support secure payment transactions.
The common operating system hardware platform and software development tools shared by the Symbol PD 8500, PD 7000 and PD 4500 provide a scalable solution for point-of-sale and point-of-service
applications.
