New Technological Clothing for Peek & Cloppenburg Hamburg

Symbol Technologies implements a complete enterprise mobility infrastructure in co-operation with P4IT

Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL), The Enterprise Mobility Company™, and their Business Partner, P4IT (Professionals for IT) is providing Peek & Cloppenburg ("P&C") based in Hamburg, Germany - a pan-European retailer, of ladies', men's and children's clothing, with devices for Mobile Data Capture ("MDE"). Symbol is implementing three projects including supplying Symbol's MC1000 rugged mobile computer for stocktaking. Currently 585 of these devices are being used by P&C. In addition, 270 MC3000's, a rugged mobile computer ideal for scan-intensive environments requiring high-quality data capture will be implemented in stages during February 2006. The MC3000 is the cornerstone of the overall solution and will be wireless integrated into P&C's network via Symbol's W51000 wireless switch later in 2006.

The Symbol products are part of a complete enterprise mobility infrastructure implementation at the premises of the clothing specialist. In July 2005, the older DOS-based competitive products were replaced by the MC1000 in all 25 stores across Europe. The new Symbol mobile computer was valued particularly for its scanning features, the ability to use conventional batteries and its competitive price. Additionally, overall performance is better because of the scanning accuracy, resulting in faster stocktaking and reduced costs.

"We have made our decision in favour of Symbol's MC1000 because it has all the key functionalities of an MDE device", said Herwig Meinhart, member of the P&C Hamburg user service. "The mobile computer is light-weight and ergonomic, has an excellent scan engine and all these features come at an affordable price".

The MC3000 based solution is currently in its implementation phase. From February 2006, the P&C staff will use 270 of these devices for applications such as the tracing of goods, price changing, label printing and re-arranging of stock between the stores. The final step of this project will be the integration of Symbol's wireless LAN switches, the WS5100, into the overall infrastructure. The WS5100 is a first rate choice due to its substantial security features, easy management and excellent scalability.

In addition, P&C decided to implement Symbol's Mobility Services Platform (MSP) to address the growing challenges associated with deploying, managing and maintaining a mobile enterprise. With MSP, they will be able to automatically manage, deploy and install new applications on all the Symbol mobile computers, client bridges, wireless switches, as well as remotely test the devices, thereby helping to save time and operational costs associated with manual testing.
