SYMBOL MOBILITY SOLUTION TO HELP ARMY AND AIR FORCE EXCHANGE SERVICE OPTIMIZE RETAIL AND WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS

Symbol Global Services, MC9090 and VC5090 Mobile Computers will Increase Productivity and Efficiencies Worldwide

2006-10-09 HOLTSVILLE, N.Y.

Symbol Technologies, Inc., The Enterprise Mobility Company™, today announced that the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has selected Symbol MC9090 rugged handheld mobile computers and VC5090 vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computers to increase productivity and efficiencies throughout its worldwide retail and warehouse operations.

With 3,100 facilities worldwide, in more than 30 countries, five U.S. territories and 49 states, AAFES provides active duty national guard and reserve members, military retirees and their families with quality, brand name merchandise and services at competitively low prices. AAFES retail sales in 2005 totaled in excess of $8 billion.

AAFES will deploy the Symbol MC9090 rugged mobile computer to improve the management of merchandise across its retail locations with inventory management, price verification, and shipping and receiving applications. AAFES also selected the Symbol VC5090 vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computer to optimize operations and increase efficiencies in its distribution centers worldwide. The VC5090 mobile computers will be used during picking and packing for automated and accurate inventory tracking, and will help streamline shipping and receiving processes.

AAFES also selected Symbol's Service from the Start Gold program which provides enhanced product support and extends coverage beyond normal wear and tear to include the repair of accidentally damaged components such as screens, keypads, and plastics. This comprehensive coverage virtually eliminates surprise repair costs and provides investment protection and reduces the total cost of ownership.

"Symbol's reputation and track record for meeting the supply chain requirements of the Department of Defense demonstrates our ability to meet the varying technology and service needs of our customers in the government and military sectors," said William C. Hartwell, Symbol's vice president of the federal government area. "AAFES realized the value of a rugged and reliable mobility solution sharing a common architectural platform that will ensure easy application portability and streamlined deployment resulting in increased productivity."

The Navy Exchange Command (NEXCOM) and Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) are able to procure Symbol products and services under this contract in order to consolidate business practices and lower TCO as well.
